“Price is what you pay, value is what you get.”
This famous Buffett quote captures the essence of the ‘value investor’ mindset and reveals the secret of how Buffett made his fortune.
But have you considered how this concept crosses over into how you market yourself as a financial advisor?
When you market your services, you already know the focus should be on the value you deliver to your clients.
Potential clients aren’t just looking at the fees — they’re evaluating the return on their investment with you.
But how do you actually prove that you deliver this value?
My two cents? Don’t ever assume you know what’s working.
In fact, assuming you’ve got it all figured out can lead to unnecessary work by missing out on the ACTUAL details of your clients’ lives that impact their buying triggers.
Let’s take a page from Warren Buffett – and while we’re at it, Elon Musk.
Both harness the power of leverage and iteration to propel their ventures forward.
What this means for you: Your success lies in paying attention to and leveraging what actually truly works for your clients, not by guessing… but by actively listening and adjusting.
Here’s how to do it.
1. Identify Your Client’s Channels
Figure out where your ideal clients are most active. Then listen in to what they’re talking about.
What topics and content resonate with them? This will be fuel for your marketing.
As a financial advisor, it’s important to identify where your ideal client are showing up – so you can be an active part of those conversations.
2. Refine, Don’t Reinvent
Don’t reinvent the wheel.
Instead, refine what’s already working and scale it strategically.
This means making time to regularly analyze your successes and optimize the strategies that have yielded the best results.
3. Define Your Unique Value Proposition
Ask yourself: What skills do I possess that truly add value to my clients’ lives?
If you need help, ask your past clients for insight (bonus: these insights could be useful for a testimonial or case study).
Once you have this intel, focus on promoting the unique skills and insights you bring that enhance your clients’ lives.
By honing in on your strengths, you can build a brand that resonates authentically and drives sustainable growth.
